About Greyhounds

Greyhounds make wonderful companions.

A greyhound can be a good match to almost any lifestyle, particularly since individual dogs can have very different personalities. In fact, when considering a greyhound, matching your personality and activity level to a dog's is very important to the long term success of the adoption. Since all our greyhounds live in foster care, we have a good idea about the dog's personality. Our application process is designed to tell us what we need to know about you, and as a result, we are able to make excellent matches between applicants and dogs.

To learn more about the specifics of our adoption process, please read our Adoption FAQ.

Still unsure?

If you are still researching greyhounds and trying to decide if they are the right breed for you, please consider picking up one of the following books. There is a lot of information on the internet, some very good, and some not quite true. To start, these books are a safer bet, and are quite comprehensive.

  • Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies (Required reading if you apply to adopt)
  • Love Has No Age Limit - Welcoming an Adopted Dog into Your Home by Patricia B. McConnell and Karen B. London (Required reading if you apply to adopt)
  • Adopting the Racing Greyhound by Cynthia A. Branigan

If you have young children of your own, young visitors or family members, or are planning additions to your family, another good book to add to your list is:
  • Living with Kids and Dogs by Colleen Pelar (Required reading if you have children 16 yrs of age and younger and you apply to adopt)

Whether you are new to dogs or an experienced dog owner, you will enjoy reading one of the best books on dog behavior ever written:
  • Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson
