Atom, racing name CG’s Atom, is an almost 4-year-old boy who retired after 65 races. Atom has been selected to participate in The Greyhound Inmate Experience.  TGIE places retired racing greyhounds in the care and supervision of specially selected and trained inmates of a correctional institution.  The greyhounds and inmates engage in a 10-week training program.  The greyhounds transition from racer to pet.  The inmates experience unconditional love and learn to trust, be patient, and become compassionate.  A wonderful Win-Win adventure.

Atom is a curious, gentle, 66lb brindle boy. He loves going for walks and has excellent leash manners. While he is walking, new sounds, i.e., a helicopter or lawnmower, surprise him a little bit, but he is soon fine again. He is curious about squirrels but does not pull on the leash or try to chase them.

He gets along with the resident greyhound, but he is cautious around small dogs. He is a little shy with people who try to approach him, but he is happy to greet people when he is doing the approach.

He is generally quiet and comfortable in a bed and is learning to spend time alone. Atom sleeps through the night, although he may prefer a bed in the same room as his people.  Like all greyhounds, he is an early riser.

Atom graduated on 8/4/2022 from The Greyhound Inmate Experience and will be available for approved adopter visits on 8/20. Please check back for updates as he settles into his foster home.
