Empress Elie, racing name CTW Empress Elie, has been selected to participate in The Greyhound Inmate ExperienceTGIE places retired racing greyhounds in the care and supervision of specially selected and trained inmates of a correctional institution.  The greyhounds and inmates engage in a 10-week training program.  The greyhounds transition from racer to pet.  The inmates experience unconditional love and learn to trust, be patient, and become compassionate.  A wonderful Win-Win adventure.

Elie is a sweet and affectionate girl who loves getting ear rubs, playing with stuffies, and long walks. She is shy around new people but warms up quickly. Loud, unexpected noises can scare her such as construction or trash cans. She does not stay afraid of anything though and she is thoroughly curious. Her leash skills are improving but she occasionally weaves back and forth or will stop/start suddenly. She notices the neighborhood squirrels and deer but does not show any interest; she may be cat-trainable. She gets along with the resident greyhound. She sleeps quietly through the night. She whines for attention if you stop petting her and will sing the song of her people.

She is medium energy, with bursts of puppy-like play behavior followed by long naps. She is mildly food motivated, she is currently not interested when outside but will work for high-value treats inside. She can sit, down, and touch (target) and is working on her leave it, look at me, and come when called skills.

Empress Elie graduated on 10/28/2021 from The Greyhound Inmate Experience and is available for approved adopter visits.  Check back for more information as she settles into her foster home.
