On 3/17/2022, Rose, racing name T’s Rose Tico, graduated from The Greyhound Inmate Experience. TGIE places retired racing greyhounds in the care and supervision of specially selected and trained inmates of a correctional institution.  The greyhounds and inmates engage in a 10-week training program.  The greyhounds transition from racer to pet.  The inmates experience unconditional love and learn to trust, be patient, and become compassionate.  A wonderful Win-Win adventure.

Rose is a sweet 60 lb red brindle girl who is very confident, outgoing, and loving. She loves being around people and has to make sure that everyone pets her at least once in a social setting. She’s very smart but could be stubborn at the same time. She knows sit, down, wait, heel, and paws. She is food motivated so this would be good to teach her more commands. She is interested to see what you do or where you go around the house, but eventually she will find a spot to settle down or go back into the crate after 5 mins of roaming.

Rose sleeps quietly in her crate throughout the night and wakes up around 7:30 am and starts tiny whine to let her foster mom know that she needs to go out. She has no problem with the DC traffic noise or any noise in the house (except for the scary vacuum, but we are learning!). She also whines when left alone in the house and it takes sometime for her to settle down. Her leash manner is great! She would stop and stare at squirrels/birds but will not pull you to chase them. She does really well with stairs, elevator, and any types of floor. She does have resource guard towards other dogs but never towards her foster mom. Her resource guard only shows when another dog approaches her while she’s laying down. But overall, she’s very mellow in the house and is not destructive.

Rose retired after 55 races and will be available for approved adopter visits on April 2. Please check back for updates as she settles into her foster home.
