Pumpkin, racing name SH Pumpernickel, has been selected to participate in The Greyhound Inmate ExperienceTGIE places retired racing greyhounds in the care and supervision of specially selected and trained inmates of a correctional institution.  The greyhounds and inmates engage in a 10-week training program.  The greyhounds transition from racer to pet.  The inmates experience unconditional love and learn to trust, be patient, and become compassionate.  A wonderful Win-Win adventure.

Pumpkin is a beautiful brindle and white 2-year-old girl who decided retirement suited her best after running 9 races. She may be a little reserved at first, but she just needs time to adjust and approach you for ear scratches and pets. Once she gets to know you, she is a wonderful girl, very affectionate with lots of love to give. Pumpkin enjoys quiet walks and the occasional jog outdoors and she sees the squirrels but is more interested in sniffing around and moving fast. She gets easily scared of loud noises and is still working on her leash skills but she is a great walking companion, enthusiastic or slow, following your rhythm. She is food oriented, and responds well to her commands: sit, shake, down, especially if there is a treat nearby. She is quiet during the day and night, with just a brief reminder that it is dinner or potty time. Once she gets to know you, her helicopter tail will greet you in the morning showing how excited she is to see you. She has discovered toys and enjoys bringing them from bed to bed, one at a time, making sure she plays with all so none feels neglected.

This little girl is ready to fill your life with Pumpkin Spice all year round, Pumpkin graduated from The Greyhound Inmate Experience and is available for approved adopter visits. Please check back for updates as she settles into her foster home.
