UPDATE: Slick has found his forever home. Please check our adoptable dogs.

Slick, racing name Oaks Trickyslick, has been selected to participate in The Greyhound Inmate Experience.  TGIE places retired racing greyhounds in the care and supervision of specially selected and trained inmates of a correctional institution.  The greyhounds and inmates engage in a 10-week training program.  The greyhounds transition from racer to pet.  The inmates experience unconditional love and learn to trust, be patient, and become compassionate.  A wonderful Win-Win adventure.

Slick is adjusting well to city life and loving his new world of curiosities. Everything is interesting to him and he enjoys exploring the city on our walks, as well as the wooded trails. He loves to see his reflection in store windows, sniff new things, and see other dogs on his walks. Squirrels always hold Slick‘s attention, but he does not exhibit strong prey drive while on the leash.

Slick has been great around kids we see on the sidewalks, as well as other dogs. Sirens, skateboards, and loud exhaust sounds do not seem to bother him — he is instead very interested in sniffing and exploring new routes. Slick is very easy to lead on the leash and responds well to commands. Over the past few days, Slick has made great progress with stairs and is now confident in going up and down a full flight. He enjoys interacting with humans but is also fantastic at resting on his own. He loves to be with people and is very affectionate. Slick is very trusting and is very eager to latch onto, and bond with, humans. He will make a greyt companion and pet.

Slick graduated on 05/26/2022 from The Greyhound Inmate Experience and will be available for approved adopter visits on 6/11/2022. Please check back for updates as he settles into his foster home.
